Pedicurist Claude Petersdorf harbours a special fondness for the feet of his female clients and reveals himself to Ms. Sandberg who lives in an old people's home. Documentary filmmaker Franziska Feldenhoven wants to make a film about the realities of German council housing which proves to be beyond boring. She is so focused on her project that she completely overlooks her partner, policeman Tom, and his fascinating secret. Evil enters and forever changes the life of a hermit, happily living in harmony with nature. Inga and Georg are aging show-offs, first snobbish, then lucid, and ultimately vulnerable. During a school trip to the memorial site of a concentration camp, popular student Maximilian humiliates outsiders Dominik and Natalie and sets up a cruel trap for his teacher, Mr. Nickel...
"Gradually, these characters began to emerge, outsiders really, who are not able to cope with the system. And when they came, they were funny and charming and beautiful and completely dysfunctional at the same time. And they didn't have Facebook, or super nice cars, but they were very lonely and full of love, and they didn't fit in at all, and mostly they just believed in being good..." -- Frauke Finsterwalder.
Born in Hamburg, Germany in 1975, Frauke Finsterwalder was educated in the US as well as at Humboldt University in Berlin. She worked as an assistant director at Berlin's Maxim Gorky Theatre, then as a journalist at Süddeutsche Zeitung in Munich where she trained as a documentary filmmaker at the Film and Television Academy. She directed several short films, commercials and two feature documentaries, TOTAL CONTROL CAN BE THE DEATH OF A MAN'S WORK (2006) and THE GREAT PYRAMID (2009). FINSTERWORLD is her first fiction feature.
