An 80-year-old man's body is found in the Yarkon River with three stab wounds to the chest and a number tattooed on his forearm. Amnon, a police detective and second generation Holocaust survivor, is reluctantly assigned to the case after a lengthy suspension. Living apart from his wife and daughter, he struggles to bring the unwanted case to a quick close. Even the most horrible club in the world, the club of Holocaust survivors, requires a "membership". In the weeks leading up to his death, the victim, Amikam, was after just such a membership. Despite his age, he is still attractive and his appeal is evident as he scours the obituaries in search of widows to charm. As the story interweaves past and present, we witness each man’s struggle to rejoin the society which rejected him.
Amir Wolf, 35, studied film and television at Tel Aviv University and teaches directing at a liberal arts school in Tel Aviv. He has directed several short films as well as stage plays for the Gesher Theatre. FIRE BIRDS marks his debut as a director and scriptwriter for features.
