Using movies as a road map between yesterday's Hollywood and today's Morocco, this film offers a Moroccan perspective on the long and intertwined relationship between Hollywood and the Arab/Muslim world. More than a dry critique of media impact on culture, the film, instead, takes a human and humourous look at the effects Hollywood films have on people's imaginations and affords Moroccans an opportunity to talk back -- which they do in intelligent, witty and wildly ingenious ways.
American filmmaker John Slattery took a master's in film and television at UCLA and began work in TV as a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco. He participated in various capacities on several shorts, features and TV shows, then, in 2004, founded his own production house, Zween Works, specializing in films on social issues. CASABLANCA MON AMOUR is his first feature length film as director.
