A cinematic tribute to the cello via four musical journeys. The daughter of a cellist tells how she spent a whole decade searching for the cello stolen from her heartbroken father. A skilled craftsman reveals the exacting process used to build a cello. An internationally renowned soloist displays the cello's vast range of expression and admits that he is unable to go any length of time without playing his instrument. An expert explains the ways that antique instruments are identified and how infatuated owners have trouble recognizing their instruments' objective quality.

Anne Schiltz studied at the Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology in Manchester and now works as a film director. Her documentaries include “Sweet Life and all that goes with it” (2002) - a portrait of a Saxon family in Transylvania, and “Gordian Troeller Revisited – Eritrea” (2007). Her interest in music is reflected in her close collaboration with various artists and musical ensembles. “Cello Tales” is her first feature documentary.
