Thursday September 4, 2014

Montreal, Sept. 4, 2014 — In anticipation of Montreal’s 375th anniversary in 2017, the Montreal World Film Festival has announced an international film project to link the city with 75 other great cities around the world. In planning since 2013, the project will entail fiction or documentary films made in each of 75 global cities and presented here through the summer of 2017 along with associated music.

A separate day will be devoted to each of the major cities, ranging across the seven continents, from Los Angeles to Sydney via New York, Toronto, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Stockholm, Moscow, Istanbul, New Delhi, Seoul, Beijing, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Cairo, Algiers, Tel Aviv, Capetown, Madrid, Lisbon, etc.

The event will take place over 75 days covering a period before, during and after the 41st edition of the Festival, which will be held August 24 to September 4, 2017.

“We at the Montreal World Film Festival felt it a natural extension of our mandate to celebrate an important Montreal anniversary by linking its history through the cinema with many of the other great cities of the world,” explained MWFF president Serge Losique.

Bringing the world of cinema to local and visiting movie lovers, the Montreal World Film Festival will hold its next edition, its 39th, on August 27 to September 7, 2015.
