Festival took off in grand style, opened by a radiant Ingrid Bergman who was joined by several great names from the history of motion pictures:
Howard Hawks, Jean-Luc Godard, Gloria Swanson, Fay Wray, the Taviani brothers.
This first festival was non-competitive.
