LE FRÈRE INDIEN

Sergio Morlaghi, peintre milanais à succès, bientôt la cinquantaine,

rentre dans sa région natale après 25 ans d’absence. Son histoire se

tisse avec celles de Bruna, une ancienne flamme, et d’autres

personnages. Mais les vrais protagonistes sont à l'arrière-plan : la plaine

inondable du nord de l'Italie qui borde la rivière Sesia et ses rizières,

jamais remise de l’arrivée des pesticides ; et les survivants d’une

civilisation rurale immuable qui s’est effondrée soudainement à la fin des

années 1960.

THE INDIAN SIBLING

Approaching the age of 50, Milanese artist Sergio Morlaghi returns to the

rural area he left as a young man. His story is interwoven with the lives

of Bruna, an old flame, and others he encounters. But the true

protagonists of the film are the flood plain along the Sesia River, its rice

fields destroyed by heavy pesticide use, and the memory of a seemingly

immutable era that suddenly collapsed in the late 1960s.

tentent de démocratiser le pays. Anna, jeune allemande idéaliste,

contribue à ce changement. Plaka, un jeune arnaqueur, a un faible pour

les occidentaux et particulièrement pour leurs devises. Pour lui, Anna est

une proie facile; mais très vite, la jeune femme constate que ses

collègues venus de partout du monde libre sont ignorants, corrompus et

David, étudiant plutôt timide, cache un lourd passé. Lorsqu’il rend visite

à Mary, une voisine, un instinct primaire surgit et il commet son premier

crime. Le lendemain matin, à sa grande surprise, Mary réapparaît chez

lui et très vite, commence à lui inculquer qu’il devrait suivre le chemin

qui lui a été tracé et qui, en fin de compte, va définir sa vraie nature de

tueur en série.

À sa sortie de prison, Li Meiling doit affronter un monde totalement

inconnu. Devant la vieille maison délabrée, les souvenirs du passé

affleurent. Elle a été vendue à un étranger loin de chez elle, afin de

permettre à son frère de rassembler de l'argent pour ses fiançailles. La

tombe de son mari est depuis longtemps couverte de mauvaises herbes,

et son jeune frère, que Li Meiling aimait, n’est plus là. Elle a gagné sa

liberté, mais se sent piégée.

The world has irrevocably changed for Li Meiling when she gets out of

prison. Standing in front of a dilapidated house, she remembers being

sold in marriage to a stranger far from her home so that her brother

would have money for his wedding. Now, her husband’s burial place is
