AWARDS OF THE 31ST CANADIAN STUDENT FILM & VIDEO FESTIVAL

Montreal, August 30th 2000. After deliberation, the members of the jury have decided to award the following films and videos:

Grand Prix KODAK Canada of the 31st Canadian Student Film & Video Festival (value of 5000$ in Kodak products for his next production) :
<< WHAT TO DO >> directed by Seth Mendelson (St-Georges High School Montreal) for its great creativity and its versatility in the hope that the director will dare push his talent even further.

Norman McLaren Award for the Best Production, in the amount of $1000. :
<< LE TEMPS >> by Frank Wimart (UQAM, Montreal)
A film that stands out, for its orgininality and its strength of expression.

Les membres du jury étaient :

Madeleine Bélisle : Madeleine Bélisle has worked in film and andiovisual since 1983. After years of distribution experience in Canadian and foreign film markets, she joined the National Film Board of Canada in 1990 to oversee the distribution of its documentaries. Since 1996 she had headed the NFB's festivals bureau and is in charge of organising special events and retrospectives of NFB works around the world.

John Connolly : Former executive director of the Canadian Film Institute in Ottawa and former director of the Ottawa International Animation Festival, John Connolly is a member of the board of directors of the Canadian Screen Training Centre, which organises the Summer Institute of Film and Television. He is a professor in the Cinema and Communications Department of Dawson College and he lectures at Concordia University in Montreal.

Samuel Gagnon : After studying at Santa Monica College in California, Samuel Gagnon returned to Quebec to work on numerous productions. Since 1996 he has been distribution director at Aska Film in Montreal and since 1998 he has been involved in Aska's production activities. He served as producer on two feature films, "Winter Lily" by Roshell Bissett and "Petit Ciel" by Jean-Sébastien Lord.
