The MONTREAL WORLD
FILM FESTIVAL (INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL OF MONTREAL) will be held from
August 25 to September 4, 2000. It is the only competitive film festival
in North America recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers
Associations. Montreal ranks among the most prestigious festivals in the
world, and over the years has become the largest publicly-attended film
festival in the western world.
The Montreal World Film Festival is open to all cinema trends for all
over the world. This eclectic aspect of its programming makes the Festival
exciting for the growing number of participants from the five continents.
Every year, films from some sixty countries, including well-known and
first-time filmmakers alike, are selected. Many films have been discovered
in Montreal during the past two decades.
All the theatres of the Festival are within walking distance, an exceptional
situation in North America. This largely contributes to the pleasant and
easy-going atmosphere, while allowing participants to further contacts.
The 2000 Festival will present the following sections:
- Official Competition
- World Greats
- World Cinema: Reflections
of Our Time
- Cinema of Tomorrow:

The INTERNATIONAL FILM, TV AND VIDEO MARKET is held during the Festival.
It brings together one thousand professionals from around the world. The
Market offers its participants video screening rooms, a co-production
program to enable producers find partners for new projects, symposiums
with high-profile speakers, and many other activities.
The Festival badge allows its holder access to all Festival screenings
without advance reservation, and to all the Market facilities.
