Including rare archival footage and live performances by over 20 dance troupes from around the world, Dance of the the Warrior surveys the variety of war dances practiced by diverse cultures over the ages and investigates how the aggression of these performances contributes to social and individual peace. A war dance or martial arts display is a choreography of forceful movements in which violent reverberations course through the body. Brodeur's message: It's a healthy way of getting it out... Then you don't need to feel the need to express it anymore in daily life. |

Marie Brodeur A modern ballet dancer in Quebec for over a decade, Marie Brodeur abandoned dance in 1985 to do audiovisual research into oriental religion and dance. The result of this research and numerous visits to the Orient was La Danse en Asie : la magie en mouvement (1992). She has since directed serveral other videos, on dance, poetry and literature: Brute (1994), Hero (1996), LES MOTS DITS (1997), A Bird in His Pockets (1998). |
