Melles, a Viennese entrepreneur, and Knarek, his Romanian driver, rob a bank. When Melles discovers that Knarek has smuggled his Romanian fianc�e Julie, into Austria in the trunk of his car, he throws her out onto the street. Julie meets Paolo, an Italian immigrant who has just lost his job at a garage, and he gives her a ride to Vienna. A romantic, he falls in love with her and dreams of opening a restaurant. But Julie is interested in easier money, the kind that's kept in banks. They find an ideal spot -- an empty Chinese restaurant next door to a branch of the Vienna Savings Bank. While Paolo serves the customers, Julie chips a hole in the wall. But she isn't the only one busy at the job; two other bank robbers are active, including Knarek, Julie's former fianc�. And where there are bank robbers there are detectives, in this case Fischer and Gudrawzcuk. Fischer is young and inexperienced while Gudrawczuk is a veteran. But Gudrawczuk's methods trouble his younger partner; the old man believes in psychic powers...

Virgil Widrich
Born in Salzburg, Austria in 1967, Virgil Widrich began his film career at the age of 12, producing and directing Super-8 shorts, then graduated to features in 1985 with VOM GEIST DER ZEIT. After a short stint at the Vienna Film Academy in 1987, he founded his own production company, Classic Films, which operated until 1991. He has worked in a variety of filmmaking occupations, specializing in CD-ROM and multimedia productions. His film directing credits include: Auch Farbe kann tr�umen (1981), Monster in Salzburg (1982) and Tx-Transform (1998). |
