GUANTANAMERA BOXE   Films for Television
Canada
2000 / Video / Color / 52 min.

Boxing is the sweet art. In Cuba, sometimes, it is also the sweet life. Yauset and Michel are 14 and 15 respectively, two young Cuban boxers who are about to participate in their first competition, the Cuban national school championships. The results of this competition will decide whether they'll be members of the national junior team. The film follows the boys as they prepare for one of the great tests of their young lives, and we share their struggle. Through the portraits of these boys we also discover that Cuba is a veritable machine for the manufacture of Olympic boxing champions.
