VULCAN JUNCTION
Nine days in the lives of six young Israelis (and one American) living in an industrial suburb of Haifa. Their story begins on Sept. 28, 1973 and ends on Yom Kippur, October 6, the day war broke out between Israel, Egypt and Syria. Michael and Danny are leaders of a rock band named Genetic Code. Their aim is to conquer the world, but until that time they'll keep the customers happy in their home port, a pub called Vulcan Junction run by Jimmy Smith, an American who has made his home in the area after years of sex, drugs and rock & roll. Michael is the band's singer and lead guitarist, Danny plays the keyboard, Yidgar, a married fireman, is on bass, and Cahana is the crazy drummer. The band auditions for a well-known producer from Tel Aviv but he makes an offer to Michael alone -- and he wants an answer by the end of the week. Michael decides to keep his dilemma to himself. Dalia, who is going out with Michael, is bright, charismatic and sexy and dreams of writing for a major political magazine in Tel Aviv whose left-wing editor she admires. She is also involved with Elbaz, a star soccer player for the Haifa team who's about to sign a contract with Ajax of Amsterdam. A brilliant striker, Elbaz is a problematic and complex young man who tends to get into trouble. On the verge of making important decisions in their lives, these young people are blithely unaware that a war will soon obliterate all of their plans.
