Helped by his flat-mate Sapo, Simon, a frustrated young novelist, earns his living writing crossword puzzles for a local Seville newspaper. It is the Semana Santa in Seville, the traditional Holy Week celebrations before Easter, and the city is filled with religious processions. Hooded penitents and festive tourists line the streets to participate in the biggest display of religious fervour in the Western world. When Simon receives a threatening message on his answering machine, he shrugs it off as a bad joke, but he decides anyway to follow instructions and include the word adversary in his next puzzle. This triggers a series of mysterious and violent events across Seville. Is the mayhem the work of some millennial cult or merely a crazed loner? Simon investigates with the help of Maria, a reporter. Before long he suspects his own flat-mate, yet it is Simon himself who becomes the prime suspect when he discovers the body of his friend Father Andres in a local church. Mateo Gil Born in Las Palmas, Spain in 1972, Mateo Gil began his career making shorts then co-wrote two feature films by Alejandro Amen�bar, THESIS (1995) and OPEN YOUR EYES (1997). His directing credits include Antes del beso (1993), So�� que te mataba (1994) and Allanamiento de Morada (1998, co-written by Amen�bar). NOBODY KNOWS ANYBODY is his first feature. |
