FIRST LIGHT OF DAWN / LES PREMIRES LUEURS DE L'AUBE
Two brothers, Edo and Saro, meet at a quiet, sun-drenched railway station in Sicily. It is evident that this is their first meeting in some time. A tragedy has brought them together: two months earlier, their parents were shot and killed in a Mafia ambush. But the brothers aren't plotting revenge and they aren't looking for a new investigation into the crime. This is mostly an occasion to rediscover each other for men who have grown apart and are now nearly strangers. Their personalities are clearly different. Edo, who left to become a prominent engineer in the North, is self-assured. He's the strong brother. Saro, on the other hand, is confined to a wheel chair and is beset by dreams and hallucinations. As is so often the case, however, the reality is quite different, and neither of the brothers is comfortable in the role life and reputation have selected for him. In fact, under their surface differences, they share a lot in common. While Edo decided early on that his fortune lay elsewhere, Saro has always insisted on remaining in Sicily. But now each, in his own way, is trying to achieve the same end -- to find and reconcile himself with his past and his roots.
