LOVE ME
France
2000 / 35 mm / Color / 107 min.

A young woman is alone at an airport and has no idea how she got here or where she came from. No passport, no memories. Gabrielle Rose is all alone, somewhere in America... or so she thinks. There's a man looking for her and she's running from him. She meets a singer, by chance, an aging French rock star who goes by the name of Lennox and specializes in gravel-voiced renditions of Presley cover tunes. Lennox looks worn out. Gabrielle asks him to help her but he leaves her in the lurch. She loses consciousness and dreams about her past, which doesn't especially interest her. When she comes to again, she latches on to Lennox. She can't imagine life without him. Gabrielle's love begins to touch him. Finally they spend a night together, get to know each other a bit better. And they fall in love. But he is forced to give her up. He's being pursued by a mysterious armed man. He leaves her and she wants to die. But she can't escape her past. She plunges back into her memories, surrounded by ghosts... If you don't understand, that's normal. If you're lost, it's okay. Let yourself go, go with the flow. Let emotion be your guide. You're being taken inside the character's head. To be sure, it's not always simple in her head, nor very clear. But is it any better in your head? -- Laetitia Masson
