Acclaimed opera director Elijah Moshinsky is filmed at work with an international cast during the staging and filming of a production of Mozart's The Abduction from the Seraglio set within the harem of the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. Covering both performance and process, the film provides fresh insights into the history of the opera and the personal life of Mozart while composing the work -- Mozart's most popular opera during his lifetime. Central to the film is an interview with Elijah Moshinsky explaining his personal approach to the work. |

Elijah Moshinsky, Mick Cs�ky After studying history and philosophy at Oxford University, Elijah Moshinsky began a long and distinguished career directing theatre and opera, including productions of Otello, A�da, Stiffelio, Simon Boccanegra, Macbeth, Samson and Delilah, Lohengrin, Peter Grimes and The Queen of Spades. He directed numerous films for British television, including: The Green Man (1990), Danton (1992), Genghis Cohn (1993), Brazen Hussies (1995) and Anorak of Fire (1997). Born in England in 1945, Mick Cs�ky graduated from the Royal College of Art and began working for Aquarius, an art magazine on London Weekend Television. He has directed over 100 films for television and produced many others. His filmography includes: How Does it Feel ? (1976), Africa (TV series, 1983), Killing the Dragon (1987), The Midas Touch (TV series, 1990), Placido Domingo (1995) and The People's President (1998). |
