Nick, George and Ed escaped their teens and cruised through their twenties. Now the three thirtysomething roommates are finally coming to terms with their adult responsibilities. Nick, an introverted artist and food service worker discovers he has a son named George who is looking for some male role models. Mitch, a self-absorbed, homebound writer, is dealing with some life-and-death matters. And Ed, after years of womanizing, wants to get serious about safe sex. The arrival of Nick's 12-year-old bastard son forces the three friends to deal with what it really means to be men. A superb, self-assured debut... a lyric comedy driven by its characters and fueled with snappy dialogue... THE ORIGIN OF MAN takes risks, and wins. F.X. Feeney (LA Weekly) Culpepper has created the paradigm for a film genre that does not yet exist... a guy movie that's actually about guys. Guys who talk. Heterosexual guys who talk. -- Sharon Kayne (Crosswinds Weekly) |
