It all begins with a mistake, a mistake with serious consequences. In a hospital in Vienna, the newborn babies Karli and Heiri are mixed up and go home with the wrong parents. One baby belongs to an Austrian couple and one to a family of Turkish immigrant workers. By the time the mistake is noticed, the Turkish family, baby included, have been deported. The despairing Austrian couple drive off after the unsuspecting Turks to Turkey, in order to retrieve their little Karli. The Austrians embark on a confusing odyssey through Turkey before finding him and Heiri's Turkish family in their hometown. But the Turks are not entirely convinced that the babies have been mixed up. The only way to settle the matter is by means of a blood test. So everyone decides to return to Austria. But this isn't as easy as it may seem; the Turks are no longer able to enter Austria legally. They have to be smuggled across the border! This is when an entirely new adventure begins, an adventure whose ending is far different than anyone expected. |
