FALLING ROCKS
Germany
2000 / 35 mm / Color / 95 min.

Five friends are headed for a trek through the wilderness of South Africa. On the eve of the trip, the youngest of the group meets a charming and attractive young man at their hotel in Capetown and invites him to join the tour. A chartered DC-3 flies the group to the starting point of their trek, an abandoned airstrip close to the Namibian border. The landscape is impressive and the mood of the trekkers is lighthearted and cheerful. On the first night they set up camp at a beautiful site, next to a river. They sit around the camp fire, drink whisky and tell stories. The mood is light and happy. But that changes early next morning when they find the body of a parachutist by the river. His chute hadn't opened. They examine the body and find a box filled with a fortune in raw diamonds. What to do? Call the police? Turn back? Too late for that. And with no other means of communication, reporting the body will have to wait until the end of their trek. And, anyway, do they really want to say anything? Even with six people there are plenty of diamonds to make everyone rich. Rich, maybe, but right now a bit greedy and suspicious. Small disagreements within the group quickly grow into major discords. The grumbling and dissension don't augur well for the trip. On the second day, one of the group gets killed under mysterious circumstances. And another trekker dies on day three. Accidents? Or is something very sinister occurring?
