Pantalen Pantoja, a captain in the Peruvian army, is a happily married man and a dutiful soldier. Partly on the basis of his exemplary morality, Pantoja is selected by the army brass to organize a special unit of young women to provide female companionship for the soldiers stationed in remote regions of the Amazon jungle. Capt. Pantoja first treats the assignment with the no-nonsense efficiency for which he is known. Soon, however, the resounding success of the mission is overshadowed by Pantoja's growing obsession with one of the women, the mysterious and seductive La Colombiana. As well, Pantoja becomes the target of blackmail by a corrupt and influential journalist nicknamed El Sinchi. When the public at large begins to hear about the army's new distaff recruits, a full-scale scandal engulfs the hapless captain. |
