Selma, a retired middle-class nurse, is a woman obsessed with the love of her handsome young son Raimundo. They live together in a house left to her by her deceased husband and she dominates Raimundo body and soul. With the help of her friend Tomasina, she spends her days shopping and baking pies to surprise him. It is a routine that has become obsessive and not without morbid overtones. Then, one day, Raimundo brings home a wounded friend and his behaviour changes. He seems absent, comes home late and sleeps during the day. He is involved in some shady goings-on at the abandoned house across the street. Selma is convinced that he has a new girlfriend and is racked by jealousy. Her relationship with Raimundo becomes marked by aggression and despair; she will do anything to ensure her son's affection. Raimundo puts her obsession to the test...

Tata Amaral
Born in S�o Paulo, Brazil, 39-year-old Tata Amaral has worked in film and video since 1983. She currently teaches film directing at the University of S�o Paulo. She co-wrote a short documentary about the Brazilian avant-garde in the '60s. Her filmography includes: Mude Seu Dial (1986), Poema: Cidade (1986), Queremos as Ondas do Ar! (1986), SP PAN 3600 (1987), Hist�ria Familiar (1988), Viver a Vida (1991), Orgulho (1992, episode of the Seven Deadly Sins series), N�o Usar o Santo Nome de Deus em V�o (1993, episode of The Ten Commandments series), O Cintur�o de Hip�lita (1994, episode of The Twelve Tasks of Hercules series). She directed her first feature, A STARRY SKY, in 1997. |
