THE MECHANISM / LE M�CANISME
One cold winter day, somewhere in the provinces, far from the events shaking the world, a young schoolteacher is heading to the remote village where she has been assigned. This is her first job and she has been waiting for it for six years. Full of hope and enthusiasm, she is eager for her life to begin at last. The second protagonist is returning from war. He didn't see much action since he was wounded the first day and spent the next eight months in the hospital. His first job is as a taxi driver at a lonely train station. There aren't many passengers but that's just fine with him. The job offers peace, the gradual recovery from his trauma and the hope that something good will happen to him. But the dreams of the schoolteacher and the taxi driver are threatened by the film's third protagonist, a man who is as young as they are but has an entirely different goal in life.

Djordje Milosavljevic
Born in Ivanica, Yugoslavia in 1969, Djordje Milosavljevic graduated in screenwriting from the University of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade and began his career writing comic strips, many of which were translated into Russian, Greek and English. He turned to the stage, writing several plays, including Saint Apocalypse and Paper Devils. He made his screenwriting debut with PAKET ARANZHMAN, and followed that with scripts for THREE PALMS FOR TWO LOAFERS AND A CHICK (1998, directed by Radivoy Andric) and SKY HOOK (1999, Ljubisa Samardzic), which competed at this year's Berlin Festival. He made his own directorial debut last year with WHEELS, which showed at numerous international festivals. |
