THE MECHANICS OF WOMEN
On the last night of a love affair, a man's girlfriend tells him about a mysterious woman who haunts the streets of Paris at night looking for men. Obsessed with the image of this woman, he enters into one one-night stand after another, his mind slipping between fantasy and reality, between past and present, as a lifetime of ill-fated love affairs comes back to haunt him. One night at a party miles out in the suburbs, he finally catches up with this mystery woman, the man-hunting woman of his dreams...
The narrative structure is provided by the development of the man's character as it emerges through the series of encounters, through the words of the women, their amorous fantasies expressed in precise, almost literary language. The raw material of the film is the original dialogue of Calaferte's work. It survives, almost unchanged, in the adaptation. -- J�r�me de Missolz
