60 PRODUCTIONS
27 FILMS AND 33 VIDEOS SELECTED FOR THE
28TH CANADIAN STUDENT FILM AND VIDEO FESTIVAL
August 23 - 27, 1997

Montreal, August 5, 1997 - Sixty young Canadian filmmakers will present their productions in competition at the 28th Canadian Student Film and Video Festival, which runs August 23 to 27 as part of the activities of the World Film Festival, announced Dani�le Cauchard, Student Festival program organizer.

On August 27, VIACOM CANADA will sponsor the 28th Canadian Student Film and Video Festival Awards presentation. The Viacom Canada Ltd Award will be given to the best student director, while the NATIONAL FILM BOARD OF CANADA will once again present the Norman McLaren Award to the best Canadian student film.

A total of 114 productions were submitted, 60 of which were chosen for the competition. Among the 27 films selected: 3 documentaries, 15 fiction, 3 animation and 6 experimental. Among the 33 videos chosen:

9 documentaries, 10 fiction, 3 animation and 11 experimental. The following Canadian institutions are represented: from British Colombia, Vancouver Film School, Emily Carr Institute, University of British Columbia, B.C. Institute of Technology and Simon Fraser University; from Manitoba, University of Manitoba; from Ontario, Ryerson Polytechnic, University of Western Ontario, Ontario College, Niagara College, Queen's University, and York University; from Quebec, University of Montreal, Concordia University, Universit� de Qu�bec � Montr�al (UQA.M), �cole Polytechnique, Dawson College, McGill University, and Coll�ge Ahuntsic.

The members of the 28th Canadian Student Film and Video Festival are: Alissa Simon, associate director of programming at the Film Center of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago; Serge Dussault, Montreal film critic at the La Presse daily newspaper; and Ron Holloway, documentary director, film critic and publisher of the German film quarterly, Kino.
