THE WORLD
FILM FESTIVAL FOUNDATION MONTRAL, August 5, 1997 - The World Film Festival Foundation launched its Friends of the Festival Card today. The proceeds will go towards the renovation of the Imperial Cinema, the last grand movie theatre in Montreal. Sponsored by Bell, La Bote Noire and the Imperial Cinema, the Friends of the Festival Card is a Bell prepaid phone card valid for $5 worth of calls. Bell and its Telecommunications Division have graciously donated 2000 of these cards to the Foundation. While supporting a worthy cause, cardholders will also benefit from a reduction on the price of a one-year subscription to La Bote Noire (reduced to $7.95 instead of regular $14.95), and will receive two free tickets for screenings at the Imperial Cinema (September 19 and November 14, 1997). The Friends of the Festival Card costs $5 and will be on sale at the Imperial and at Festival venues. Qubec artist Yolande Juteau's design, inspired by this year's Festival poster, will undoubtedly make the card a collector's item. The Foundation also announced a special event, < MARILYN AT THE MEDLEY >, a benefit cabaret evening to be held Thursday, August 28. Produced by Foundation director Jean Sicotte, in collaboration with MusiquePlus, the event is sponsored by Vodka Rainbow and Fetzer Wines. Franois Gourd will serve as master of ceremonies. From 9:30 p.m. on, the cabaret will feature music, song, poetry and performances. Around midnight, La Fanfare, a group whose music has long been a fixture of Montreal's wildest nights, will take over. Strada will follow and guests may dance 'til dawn to their swinging Mediterranean rhythms. Charton Hobbs, distributor of Rainbow Vodka and Fetzer California Wines, has generously contributed to the cabaret evening. Moreover, for every bottle of Rainbow Vodka sold at the evening, the distributor will donate $1.00 to non-profit organizations dedicated to AIDS research.
