Dir.: Bill Bennett

Bill Bennett is legendary in Australian cinema for literally knocking on doors to raise money for his films. He began his professional career as a reporter on the popular current affairs show, "Willesee at Seven" and went on to direct several important documentaries and the TV series "The Australians". In 1984 he directed "Shipwrecked", a docudrama which won Best Documentary at the Sydney Festival. That same year Bennett made his first feature-length film, a documentary entitled A STREET TO DIE which won the Critic's Prize at the Karlovy Vary Festival. His BACKLASH (1986) was shown in Cannes and his subsequent films include: DEAR CARDHOLDER (1987), "The Banjo and the Bard" (1987), JILTED (1987), MALPRACTICE (1988), THE LAST MAN HANGED (1992), THE GADFLY (1993) and TWO IF BY SEA (1996).

Nikki makes good use of the men she meets in bars. She lures them to hotel rooms where she drugs and robs them with the help of her accomplice and lover Al. When one of her "marks" accidentally dies, the young couple flee, stealing the victim's briefcase which contains an incriminating video of football star Zipper Doyle together with a young boy. Afraid that they are now murder suspects, Nikki and Al leave town and head west across the barren Nullarbor Plain. Meanwhile, Zipper Doyle has discovered that his friend has been killed and the suspects have his video. With the cops and Zipper hot on their trail, Nikki and Al hide out overnight at a motel. Next morning, the motel owner is dead; murdered. The cash register is empty and robbery appears to have been the motive. Fleeing further into the desert, the two suspects are given shelter by an eccentric couple at their isolated shack. By morning, they too are found murdered. Nikki and Al begin to suspect each other of the killings and they also start to learn things about each other they wished they never knew. Meanwhile, the cops are closing in, helped by an aboriginal tracker...
