In this documentary set in a boarding school for blind children in Prague, we are introduced to the surprisingly strong interest exhibited by such children in photography. People with normal vision select images according to their visual experience of the world. Responding to the contemporary glut of sophisticated image-making technology, we tend to jump impatiently from one "picture" to another and our observations are short and insensitive. The visual saturation often makes us "blind". But truly blind children have an entirely different "visual perception" of the world. They take photos of things they have never seen and will probably never see. They show us with joy and grace images of their world perceived through "pictures" of sounds, touches and other sensual experiences. This film examines and documents the rich inner life of blind children and opens our eyes to a world we have never truly seen before. |
