In Seoul one night, a shy young woman is out on the town. Twenty-six, she has led a fairly sheltered life until now, a life preoccupied by the advancement of her career. That night she meets an equally shy young man who is currently on leave from his studies in the United States. They spend the night together. The next morning on the mirror of the hotel room she finds a message written to her in lipstick: "Welcome to the world of AIDS!" Devastated, she decides to commit suicide. But every attempt to kill herself ends in failure. One day she tries hanging herself on the shore of a remote lake but is rescued by a fisherman. He is curious to know why she wants to die but is too polite to ask. The woman makes him a proposition -- his help in her death in exchange for her apartment and all the money in her bank account. The man accepts but his efforts are all futile. Before long she realizes that he either can't or won't do it. Extremely frustrated, she leaves him and returns to Seoul. In desperation she calls an agency of last resort... |
