Dir.: Paul Chart Born in London in 1961, Paul Chart graduated from the Great Yarmouth College of Art and Design and studied at Sheffield Polytechnic where he made his directorial debut on "Not a War Film" (1984). He began his professional career co-writing and co-producing "Hand in Hand" (1985) and directed "Trick or Treat" and "Foreign Bodies" (1987) as well as two documentaries, "Life Calls" and "Ken Kesey - Life and Times". Criminal psychiatrist Jake Nyman is taking a much needed vacation from responsibility. An experimental road trip on which every decision will be made on the flip of a coin. Meanwhile, Sandra Thomas, a disenchanted Los Angeles professional, is en route to pick up her flunked-out sister Alice at a cheap motel before continuing on to visit their ailing mother in Utah. After being forced off the road in the California desert by a mysterious assailant, Sandra is picked up by Jake, whose coin-flipping amorality quickly excites her own desire to break a few rules. Or worse. Jake and Sandra's dark romance is soon driven by chance acts of crime and kindness, all governed by the toss of a coin. At least until Sandra mysteriously disappears and Jake unwittingly picks up her suspicious sister Alice. |
