At a gala dinner in a Paris hotel hosted by the King and Queen of Spain, Santi, a member of the royal escort, and Diana, the attractive widow of a banker and a prominent socialite, bump into each other. When Diana recognizes Santi, she is irate. She tries to catch his attention to tell him off but he is too busy with official business. She has plenty to be upset about. It all begins thirty years earlier when Diana was a rabid Beatles fan and Santi was a clerk at the hotel where the pop group was staying. Diana had sneaked into John Lennon's room and Santi got into trouble because of it. It was love at first sight between Santi and Diana, but circumstances intervened to cut short their relationship. Their next meeting comes two years later when Diana crashes her unlicensed car into Santi's. Another whirlwind affair ensues and it too peters out in the face of financial difficulties. A year later, on the night of her wedding to someone else, Diana places a desperate phone call to Santi. Does he still love her? An affirmative answer and the couple are back together again. But this latest liaison comes to a painful and inevitable break with Santi throwing Diana down a flight of stairs. In 1975 they meet again. They are both married to other partners, but that proves no obstacle to a new fling. And so it goes. Meanwhile, back at the royal reception, Diana manages to get hold of Santi. The amorous hostilities resume with a vengeance.
