Dir.: Antonio Mitrikeski

Born in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia in 1961, Antonio Mitrikeski studied at the Lodz Film School in Poland where he directed four short films, "The Duel", "A Day", "Time" and "Echo", all shown at international festivals. After graduation, Mitrikeski began working for Macedonian television, directing a production of William Saroyan's "Is Somebody There?" and "The Cheater and the Landlady" from his own script. In 1991 he directed a documentary, "The Love of Koco Topencarov". ACROSS THE LAKE is his first fiction feature.

Konstantin is from Macedonia and Elena is from Albania. They love each other but political borders and a large lake keep them apart. Konstantin crosses them one day to try to bring Elena back home with him, but he is immediately arrested as a spy and ends up spending years in Albanian prisons. After the death of Enver Hoxha, the Communist dictator of Albania, Konstantin is free to return to Macedonia together with Elena and their daughter. But the end of their journey does not signal the simple triumph of love. Konstantin cannot erase the memories of incarceration and torture. These -- and the unanswered question: why? -- will remain with him until his dying day.
