When the Russia-Sofia-Belgrade Express makes a technical stop in town, there is a mad rush to get aboard. Some passengers are only hopping on to get to the fair in Plovdiv while others hope to make it to Sofia. The passengers already aboard come from a variety of European countries and their final destinations are equally varied. There's the satisfied grandmother heading to Belgrade to visit her daughter who -- as she tells everyone who'll listen -- is married to a millionaire. "Surely in worthless dinars!" someone comments. There's the trio of Polish "dancers" with a pimp as a manager; the Bulgarian army veteran who laments the erosion of discipline and respect since the demise of Communism; the Kuwaiti sheik with a distinctly Bulgarian accent; the off-duty doctor whom everyone wants to consult (the law doesn't yet allow him to charge private fees); the high school senior who learns that even love costs money these days; the army reservist who'll be AWOL (not to mention that his wife will divorce him) if he doesn't get home in time. And there's little chance that he will. The train hasn't made its scheduled stop in Sofia and has already crossed the Bulgarian border. It shows no sign of stopping anywhere. The computer has been pre-programmed and there's no one aboard who can do anything about it...
