It's been over a year since Firecracker broke up his hit band, Brains, and disappeared from the Japanese pop scene. Now he's in the wilds of northern Japan, raising cabbages and wondering why his talent at writing music seems to have dried up. One day he gets a call from his manager, Kimura. Come to Tokyo, I've got an interesting proposition, Kimura tells him. Reluctantly Firecracker makes the trip only to discover that Kimura hopes to start up a new band and wants Firecracker to do what he could no longer do for Brains, write songs. Depressed, Firecracker drives out the country and parks beside a river. Looking in his rear-view mirror, he sees a young girl on the dike. She seems to be dancing. She approaches Firecracker. She's practising for a dance competition but she's lost her wallet and needs money for the bus home. He gives her some and drives away back north. That evening, outside his house, Firecracker hears a noise. He goes out to check and finds that it's the dancing girl, Spark. She seems to have followed him all the way from Tokyo. She claims she just wanted to return his money, but she knows all about Firecracker and is a huge fan of his music. He's not happy about it but allows her to stay the night in his house. The next morning Spark makes no move to leave. Irritated, Firecracker orders her out. She finally goes but a haunting caricature that she had drawn of him causes Firecracker to change his mind and bring her back. There's a lot about this girl that Firecracker doesn't understand, but her effect on him is undeniable... |
