Stavros and Fotis are in their 30s, have been friends for years, and spend most of their time hanging out in the same sports bar. Fotis is single and still chasing every woman he sees, while Stavros is married to Eleni and about to become the father of her child. The friends hatch a get-rich-quick scheme that involves changing Greek drachmas into American dollars, dollars in Bulgaria into Bulgarian lev and lev back into even more dollars in Switzerland. They get Eleni to "borrow" their capital from her boss who's away for a week, and they drive off in Stavros' battered car to make their fortune before the boss returns. But things start off on the wrong foot right away when they get fewer dollars than expected for their drachmas. This trip isn't going to be nearly as profitable as they were hoping... "(Director) Goritsas charts the adventures of these hopeless scoundrels with affection and humour., at the same time providing a revealing glimpse into contemporary Balkan attitudes." -- David Stratton (Variety) |
