Dir.: George Matsuoka

Born in Aichi Prefecture, Japan in 1961, George Matsuoka began making 8 mm films while still in high school. He directed "March" in 1981 and "The Contryside's Low" in 1984. He made his feature debut in 1990 with GOLD FISH, which won prizes in Japan and Taiwan. He subsequently directed TWINKLE (1992), which was shown at several international festivals, and HANAKO (1995).

It is difficult to buy your own house or your own apartment in contemporary Tokyo. Despite the great demand and the inflated prices, there are plenty of would-be buyers when new properties come up for sale. Yoshi and Roba are two the lucky ones. They beat the 76-to-1 odds and snag a small apartment in anew high-rise. Yoshi is a lighting designer who works for a large firm and would dearly love to be independent. Roba, a photographer, has a dream of going off to Nepal to shoot pictures of rare butterflies. One night, at a bar celebrating their acquisition of the apartment, they meet two women. Yoko, a fine hair stylist, is having a hard time making it in the city but she intends to continue the fight. Aiko, who works in a office, is timid, a bit neurotic and has difficulties getting along either in the city or with men. Chance brings these four people together and before long they are living together in Yoshi and Roba's new apartment. The closeness of their living conditions affects their relationships...
