Dir.: David Trueba A journalist and translator, David Trueba began his film career as a screenwriter, first for short films and television and, in 1991, as co-scenarist of Emilio Martínez-Lazaro's AMO TU CAMA RICA. Two years later, he wrote the script for the same director's LOS PEORES AÑOS DE NUESTRA VIDA, and in 1995 he co-wrote the script for TWO MUCH, directed by his brother Fernando Trueba. Also in 1995, he published his first novel, "Abierto toda la noche". In 1993-94 Trueba wrote and produced a weekly show on Spanish TV entitled "El peor programa de la semana". Last year he made his directorial debut on a video, "El lado salvaje de la vida", for singer Alberta Pla. THE GOOD LIFE is his first feature. |

Tristan attends a French lycée in Madrid, plays the piano and dreams of losing his virginity. The biological son of a Madrid salesman, Tristan imagines himself the spiritual fils of Voltaire; not yet fifteen, he is seriously at work writing his autobiography. His left-wing parents hate the political climate in Spain and dream of moving to France. One day, while they are away on a trip, Tristan invites a prostitute around to the house but, at just the wrong time, the phone rings with the terrible news that his parents have died in a car crash. Tristan moves in with his aunt and falls in love with his punky cousin Lucia. His relationship with these and other relatives and with his caring teacher Isabel, alters dramatically as he is forced to grow up fast.
