In the late Sixties, in a small village on the Mediterranean coast, Carlos, Matías, Fermín, Tere and Ana, a group of teenagers who play in the village band, come up with the idea of forming a rock group with the backing of the village band's new conductor. Also instrumental in the success of their endeavour are the influences of a local singer and an English painter who lives in a fisherman's house by the seaside. The young musicians recruit Olegario, an old, blind rocker who play drums and runs the local billiards parlour. Theirs is a difficult fight. This is the Franco era and Spanish society is still dominated by reactionary religious, social and educational policies. On the night of San Juan, full of traditions and legends, with music, fires and the ocean setting a special atmosphere in town, the young people realize their dreams but find that life has changed dramatically, that like snakes shedding their skins, they have left behind the innocence of adolescence and become young adults. |
