Bosnia. The word has become synonymous with the horrors of brutal civil war, the kind of war that people had thought was relegated to the past or at least to faraway places. But television and daring reporting by courageous -- or foolhardy -- men and women, have brought this war to the living rooms of the world. The war in Bosnia had become a ratings war as well, for individual reporters a chance to establish one's journalistic credentials, for television networks a chance to win viewers or prestige. Laura is a successful TV journalist who has never been to a war zone before. She is totally unprepared for the subject or the conditions in besieged Sarajevo. But Mikel has been in the Bosnian capital a while and he shows her the ropes. His cameraman, José, will work for Laura. Mikel and José share the same blend of cynicism and professional commitment that has become necessary for the job. Laura shares their commitment but not their cynicism. Not yet. Slowly, through contact with journalists from around the world and the daily grind of gathering such horrific news, her outlook changes. She becomes inured to the slaughter. She becomes callous. She even ventures into the most dangerous part of Sarajevo, the area of the city that journalists have come to call "Comanche Territory".
