Chad and Howard, two junior executives, are sent on a six-week business trip to a Midwest branch office. Frustrated by their lot in life, passed over for promotions by young sharks at work and rejected by girlfriends, they're ripe for revenge. At the airport Chad outlines a perfect scheme. They'll select a woman who looks like she isn't asked out often. They'll shower her with dates, flowers and dinners until her head is in a whirl. And then, at the end of six weeks, they'll dump her... "Out goes the rug and us pulling it hard... Trust me, she'll be reaching for the sleeping pills in a week. And we'll be laughing about this till we are very old men." Their chosen victim is Christine, a pretty but deaf secretary at the branch office. Chad turns on the charm... "My model was Restoration comedy. I'm fascinated by the spectacle of wealthy characters who hurt each other out of boredom. The film has a simple story: boys meet girl, boys crush girl, boys giggle." -- Neil LaBute "The searing story of two corporate creeps who play a cruel trick on a deaf woman... an unforgiving portrait of sexist and racist corporate culture and a plot that subtly, unforgivably turns the tables." -- Roger Ebert (Chicago Sun-Times) "Neil LaBute directs this low-budget film with such spareness and precision, using such minimal yet effective backdrops, that in retrospect his colour film seems almost to have been in black and white. Its ideas are that stark." -- Janet Maslin (New York Times)
