LES DÉMONS DE JÉSUS (CA) Dir.: Bernie Bonvoisin; Script: Bernie Bonvoisin; Phot.: Bernard Cavalié; Ed.: Scott Stevenson; Mus.: Nadia Farès, Fabienne Babe, Thierry Frémont, Yann Collette, Martin Lamotte, Patrick Bouchitey, Marie Trintignant, Victor Lanoux, José Garcia, Élie Semoun; Cast: Éric Atlan, Clara Films; Prod. & Sales: Prima Film. The Jacobs, a family of carnies, have settled down on the outskirts of town. Father Jo has retired from the game and drowns his bitterness in beer. Mother Rita keeps house. For a bit of excitement, Néné and Jésus, the two craftiest boys, indulge in petty swindling. Between dust-ups, they hang out at Elvis's, the local dump. Marie, their sister, is the only one with a real job. A supermarket cashier, she has created her own world, which allows her to tolerate her current situation. She's desperate to leave, to flee the boredom, to head to the bright lights, to go anywhere... But elsewhere is past the housing projects and that's forbidden territory for common "chicken thieves"... There's also Ernest, the family intellectual, and Jeannot, the youngest, for whom going to school seems like a mighty waste of time. In those days De Gaulle was warning about revolution and Che was a hero. Those were the heady days of '68. There were dreams, jobs and dignity. There were things to give a damn about. |
