WAKE UP LOVE (AL) Dir.: Eliseo Subiela; Script: Eliseo Subiela; Phot.: Raul Campos; Ed.: Marcela Sáenz; Mus.: Martín Bianchedi; Cast: Darío Grandinetti, Soledad Silveyra, Juan Leyrado, Marilyn Solaya, Gustavo Garzón, Emilia Mazer, Valentina Bassi; Prod.: CQ 3 / Artear S.A. / INCAA; Sales: CQ 3 Film, Guatemala 5865, 1 piso, Buenos Aires (Argentine), tél. & fax: 54 1 375 4020, 54 1 375 4022, 54 1 790 1084 . Ernesto, a survivor of that generation of young Buenos Aires idealists of the '60s whose political activism was their life blood, is now a fortyish journalist who is suffering from a kind of midlife crisis. Ricardo, on the other hand, a grey-haired furniture-store owner, is hell-bent on resisting the passage of time; his secret is rock 'n' roll, which he listens to (and dances to) endlessly. Once members of an inseparable group of adolescents who shared the same ideals, the same adventures and sometimes even the same love interests, the two former friends haven't seen each other in 25 years. One day, Ricardo decides to track down the members of that far-flung group; he wants to try to recreate the get-togethers of their past. When he and Ernesto reunite with their old activist friends, their thoughts return to a time when they still fought for what they believed in. The reunion evokes more than mere nostalgic reminiscing, however; one of the get-togethers that Ricardo recreates is between Ernesto and Ana, Ernesto's former girlfriend and now Ricardo's wife. The passage of time has made Ana a sad woman, and her encounter with Ernesto brings back a rush of memories, feelings and dramas. Whether he wanted to or not, Ricardo's recreation of the past has produced a reawakening of desire. |
