Li Haoming is so desperate to be a writer, he quits his job and buys a computer with the money he and his wife Shi Hui have saved. He stays home and begins to write. Shi Hui cannot understand what's got into him and eventually she sues for divorce and leaves with their child. Shi Hui's sister, Shi Hong, comes to Beijing from Shenzhen and moves into the apartment temporarily left to Li Haoming by his ex-wife. At first they don't get along. There is constant friction between Shi Hong, who is a professional dancer, and Li. But before long their hostility wanes. Shi Hong sympathizes with Li's plight and she begins to show him how to earn money using his computer. Their friendship blossoms. When Shi Hong becomes pregnant by her boyfriend Xu Kuan, it's Li's turn to sympathize. Xu Kuan doesn't seem to care for Shi Hong and when he abuses her, Li intervenes to stop the fight. He accompanies her to the hospital and takes care of her afterwards. Things also begin looking up for Li. He and Shi Hong fall in love and he finally succeeds in finishing and publishing his first novel. But Li makes the mistake of sharing his happiness with Shi Hui. Hi ex-wife becomes so angry that she decides to take back her apartment. The real test of Li's creative imagination is about to begin.
