In l'Estaque, a small port district in the north of Marseille, life may be hard but that's no reason not to enjoy it. That's pretty much Jeannette's philosophy. Jeannette is trying to raise a teenage daughter and a young son on the salary of a supermarket cashier but she always has a kind word for her friends and a mean one for her enemies. Jeannette lives in a tiny house that opens out into a typical Mediterranean style courtyard across which she has daily discussions with her neighbours Caroline, Monique, Justin and Dédé. Then Marius enters her life and upsets it completely. An amiable giant of a guard at a soon-to-be-demolished cement factory, Marius first wins her heart then breaks it by retreating to the isolation of his cement factory. It's left to Jeannette's neighbours to bring them back together again.

"A charming, easygoing portrait of a bunch of characters in a Marseille neighbourhood, MARIUS AND JEANNETTE is a small-sized but big-hearted pic that will delight fans of local-bred helmer Robert Guédiguian, following his move into the international spotlight with the similar TILL DEATH DO US PART." -- Derek Elley (Variety)
