Seventeen-year-old Jared lives in Blackrock, suburb of an Australian coastal city and distinguished only by the industrial landscape surrounding it. For Jared, life in Blackrock is pretty much on cruise control. He's just finished his next-to-last year at school and has aspirations of becoming a professional photographer. He has a girlfriend, Rachel, gets along with his divorced mother, Diane, and like most kids in Blackrock, he surfs. Then Ricko arrives back in town. A local surfing legend who headed north a year ago, Ricko is like the older brother Jared never had. He throws a welcome home party for Ricko at the local surf club, a party destined to be the event of the season. But the next morning the town is shocked to learn that Tracy, a 15-year-old girl, has been found dead in the nearby rocks. She has been raped and murdered. The police have their suspicions but nobody is talking. The national media descend on the town and Jared is torn between exposing the truth and protecting his mates. His stubborn silence frustrates Diane, who has a few unpleasant secrets of her own. When you're seventeen, scared and alone, how do you choose between loyalty and the truth? |
