Harvard graduates Freddie Fabucci and Mac McCain have just moved into Boston's Italian North End. Mac, a successful young investment banker, has his sights set on marriage, a house on Cape Cod and early retirement. Freddie wants to make movies, but to demonstrate his cinematic talents he intends to make a documentary on the North End, one of the area's last ethnic neighbourhoods, which is now under siege by a new breed of "immigrant" -- real estate developers, ravenous swarms of college grads and yuppies, and gangs of upstart hoods and drug dealers. The neighbourhood is deteriorating and the residents don't know whom to blame. As Freddie sets out with his camera to find some answers, Mac, still reeling from the breakup with his fiancée, meets and falls hard for Danielle Amato. A sexy young "princess" of the North End who lives with her senile grandmother and her over-protective brother, Danielle dreams only of getting out of the neighbourhood. In the crowded confines of their apartment, it isn't long before Freddie is also swayed by Danielle's charms. A drama of passion, jealousy and betrayal begins to unfold and Freddie realizes he can no longer remain "behind the lens" of this particular movie. |
