Dir.: Kira Muratova

Born in Soroki, Moldavia in 1934, Kira Muratova studied philology at Moscow University and graduated from Sergei Gerassimov's directing class at the Moscow film school, VGIK. She has lived and worked in Odessa since 1961. After co-directing two films with Alexander Muratov, SHORT ENCOUNTERS (1961) and OUR DAILY BREAD (1964), she began making her own films. These include: LONG GOODBYE (1971), BECOMING ACQUAINTED WITH THE WORLD (1978), AMONG THE GRAY STONES (1983), A CHANGE OF FATE (1987), THE ASTHENIC SYNDROME (1991), A SENTIMENTAL MILITIAMAN (1992) and PASSIONS (1993).

FURNACE ROOM #6: During an argument over a piece of soap, a man kills his neighbour. He searches for a place to hide her corpse and comes across furnace room number 6, where he relies on the help of a poet acquaintance...
OFELIA: Ofelia. a nurse, was given up for adoption at birth by her mother, and now she is looking to avenge her fate. Tanya, a young mother, decides to have her baby adopted despite advice to the contrary. Ofelia leads her into a trap, strangles her with a nylon stocking and hides her deed by means of a sexual encounter with the ward doctor. Ofelia sneaks into the archives and steals a file belonging to another woman who gave her daughter away many years ago, a woman who could have been her own mother. Ofelia lies in wait for this woman...
DEATH AND THE MAIDEN: A paralyzed old man takes care of his neighbour's little girl during the day. The girl grows tired of his constant orders and warnings, however, and puts rat poison into his water...
