He directed his first feature, SUKEBAN MAFIA: RINCH, in 1980. Tokyo, 1956. Soichiro Anzai, a middle-aged professor, records his sexual activities with his young wife in his diary. Ikuko grew up in a strait-laced family and has always behaved properly, but Anzai is convinced that under her restrained exterior, she is as lustful as he is. He keeps his diary in a locked drawer but leaves the key conveniently on top of the desk. He's hoping she will be tempted to read the diary and that she be stimulated by what she finds in it. As he expected, she finds the key and begins reading the diary. Anzai learns that Kimura, a young photographer, has a crush on Ikuko and, stimulated by his own feelings of jealousy, he invites the young man to the house for a drink. Ikuko joins in the party, can't hold her alcohol and passes out. Anzai asks Kimura to help him carry Ikuko to the bedroom. Later, making love to his still semi-conscious wife, Anzai is startled to hear her call out Kimura's name. Jealousy fans his lust. He schemes to get his wife even more involved with Kimura. Anzai takes nude pictures of Ikuko and has them developed by Kimura. When he finds his wife's diary, he is thrilled to learn that she is indeed attracted to the young photographer.
