En amont de cette histoire, il y a deux enfants, Rick et Samir: une amitié qui restera par-delà la vie et au-delà de la mort. Lors d'une cavale nocturne, Rick meurt. Reste Samir avec la culpabilité d'avoir survécu à son ami... Ailleurs et plus tard... Les personnages entrent en scène sans savoir que leur destin va être bouleversé par cette amitié détruite. Dans une cité perdue entre ciel et terre, Jimmy, 18 ans, vit dans la nostalgie de son enfance passée à la campagne. Fougueux et désordonné, il prend sa vie à bras le corps sans se soucier du lendemain. Aux portes de cette cité, Julie habite dans le confort de la maison parentale. Éprise d'absolu, elle considère sa jeunesse comme un état de grâce. Son ami Quentin, fils d'ouvrier, réussit à publier un livre qui le rend célèbre et il se servira de cette célébrité pour revendiquer son appartenance sociale. Quentin connaît Jimmy, tous deux sont liés d'une amitié profonde et sincère, jusqu'à ce qu'un soir, Quentin rencontre Samir qui le fascine par sa singularité. Cette rencontre sur fond de crise sociale révèlera chacun des personnages à lui-même, tout en dessinant le portrait d'une jeunesse à qui rien n'a été donné. | FULL SPEED
First there was the friendship of Rick and Samir, a friendship they were sure would endure beyond life or death. It didn't. It lasted until one rowdy night when the invulnerability of their youth came up against the inexorability of fate. In the ensuing collision, Rick perished. Samir remained, but was now burdened with the guilt of having survived - and betrayed - his friend. The world became his prison... Later, elsewhere, completely oblivious to how fate had destroyed this earlier friendship, a new group of young protagonists enters the scene. Jimmy, 18, retains nostalgic memories of his childhood in the country. Julie, 20, who still lives at home, believes in the absolute and in youth as a state of grace. Her friend Quentin, 20, is a worker's son who has written a book and become famous. Quentin knows Jimmy. They remain good friends until the night Quentin meets a strange and fascinating young man: Samir. Once again the world of youth is perturbed. |
| Gaël Morel est né le 25 septembre 1972. Comédien dans LES ROSEAUX SAUVAGES (André Téchiné, 1993) et LE PLUS BEL ÂGE... (Didier Haudepin, 1994), il a réalisé deux courts métrages, "À corps perdu" (1992) et "La Vie à rebours" (1994), lequel remporte plusieurs prix dans le circuit des festivals. À TOUTE VITESSE est son premier long métrage.
| Gaël Morel was born in 1972 and began his film career as an actor (he played in LES ROSEAUX SAUVAGES by André Téchiné and in Didier Haudepin's LE PLUS BEL ÂGE...) before trying his hand at directing. In 1992 he made his directorial debut with a short, "À corps perdu". His next film, "La Vie à rebours" (1994), won numerous prizes, including the Prix du Jury Jeune at the Brest festival, the Kodak prize (Cinémas en France section) at Cannes and best direction at the Festival de Poitiers. FULL SPEED is his first feature.
