THE DARIEN GAP

Lyn Vaus est un jeune Bostonais sans le sou qui profite de l'hospitalité de ses amis, ainsi que de celle des autres. Si ce n'était pas de sa fainéantise, il aurait pu en faire une profession. Il voudrait bien tomber amoureux, mais il déteste les engagements. Par conséquent, pour remplir le vide de son existence, il se contente d'enregister ses collègues sur vidéo. Par ailleurs, il n'a qu'une seule ambition: faire du stop en direction de la Patagonie afin de trouver le légendaire "géant paresseux". Mais Lyn est également conscient que ce chemin est rempli d'obstacles, notamment lorsqu'il s'agit d'essayer de franchir "la brèche de Darien", ce marécage long de 80 milles. Et tout d'un coup, une certaine Polly Joy s'immisce dans la vie de Lyn. Couturière de métier, elle habite un appartement à Beacon Hill. Et chose bizarre, pour elle, le mot "engagement" ne fait pas partie de son vocabulaire. Petit à petit, à mesure que le couple se forme, Lyn va s'apercevoir que la dite brèche de Darien n'est pas aussi éloignée. 		THE DARIEN GAP

Lyn Vaus is a penniless, homeless young Bostonian who mooches off friends and strangers and would be a professional opportunist if he weren't so lazy. He would like to find love but abhors commitment ("I keep seeing mental institutions"), and the sum of his artistic imperative consists of videotaping fellow slackers mouthing off about their problems and lack of prospects. His only real ambition involves hitchhiking to Patagonia to find the legendary giant sloth but he worries about how to get across the 80-mile swamp - the Darien Gap - that interrupts the highway in Panama. It's a bleak future for Lyn until Polly Joy enters his life. Polly is almost too good to be true, a fashion designer with a Beacon Hill apartment and "commitment" absent from her vocabulary. But just when Lyn sees the possibility of escaping his past life and troubles without actually leaving for Patagonia, he discovers a Darien Gap that's a lot closer to home.
Diplômé de la London International Film School en 1989, Brad Anderson travaille par la suite comme monteur sur plusieurs longs métrages et sur des documentaires pour la télévision tels que SANKOFA (Haile Gerima), THE AMERICAS (pour le poste WGBH) et SOON. Fondateur de Nomad Films, il produit plusieurs courts métrages ainsi que le documentaire FRANKENSTEIN'S PLANET OF THE MONSTERS. Avec THE DARIEN GAP, il signe son premier long métrage de fiction.
After graduating from the London International Film School in 1989, Brad Anderson worked as an editor on various features and TV documentaries including SANKOFA (Haile Gerima), THE AMERICAS (for WGBH) and SOON. Anderson's production company, Nomad Films, has produced several short films as well as the 60-minute documentary, Frankenstein's Planet of Monsters. THE DARIEN GAP marks his debut as a feature director.
